Each Khaya 4-Sleeper is made at the Alu-Cab factory in Cape Town, South Africa and imported into Canada on the buyer's behalf.
Pre-orders are available through any Cap-it retail location. Allow approximately three months or more for production, ocean freight, customs clearance and final delivery. Timing is estimated and may vary. Destination freight, vehicle-specific fitment, installation, support legs, battery and optional accessories are additional unless specifically included in your written quote.
The Alu-Cab Khaya 4-Sleeper is a fully equipped, removable family expedition camper designed to carry four people beyond the reach of ordinary RVs and trailers.
Built around Alu-Cab's proven aluminum Khaya platform, it combines sleeping space for a family of four with a 75-litre water tank, sink, air heater, water heater, lighting, storage, shade, privacy and practical camp furniture, all within a compact drive-off camper designed for compatible mid-size pickup trucks.
The rear seating area converts into additional sleeping space when night falls. The pop-up roof creates standing room and the main upper bed, while the integrated camp systems help your family cook, clean up, warm up and settle in without towing a separate trailer behind you.
This is not a camper built around a campsite. It is a family basecamp built around the places your truck can reach.
The Family Camper That Still Lets You Own a Pickup
A permanent camper conversion can take over the vehicle underneath it. A travel trailer adds another axle, another registration, another storage problem and another piece of equipment to manoeuvre when the road gets tight.
The Khaya takes a different approach.
Load it onto your truck when adventure calls. Remove it when the trip is over. Leave it standing at camp while you use the truck to explore, buy supplies or reach a trailhead. Back at home, unload the camper and your pickup becomes a pickup again.
- Sleeps a family of four without towing a trailer
- Drive-off design keeps your truck useful between trips
- Compact mid-size truck footprint for greater mobility on narrow routes
- Leave your basecamp established while using the truck independently
- Store the camper pre-packed and ready for the next trip
- Move the camper to another compatible vehicle in the future, subject to fitment
Made for Your Order in Cape Town
The Khaya 4-Sleeper is not pulled from general Canadian inventory. Your camper is ordered through Cap-it, produced at Alu-Cab's factory in Cape Town and imported into Canada specifically for you.
That process takes time, so plan ahead. Allow approximately three months or more from order placement to delivery, with timing dependent on factory scheduling, international freight, customs clearance and transportation within Canada.
Bring the Family, Not the Trailer
The Khaya 4-Sleeper makes exceptional use of a compact footprint. By day, the rear section functions as a seating and living area. At night, it converts into the additional bed required for a family of four.
That flexibility gives you a proper interior without forcing the camper to remain permanently expanded. The pop-up roof lifts quickly at camp, creating standing height and opening the upper sleeping area, then packs down for travel.
For couples, the additional interior space creates an exceptionally comfortable two-person camper. For families, it provides the sleeping capacity needed to travel together without stepping up to a large truck camper, camper van or towable RV.
Family by night, living space by day: the convertible rear area is what makes the Khaya 4-Sleeper work. It adds genuine sleeping capacity without surrendering the interior space your family needs during the day.

Go Places Trailers Cannot
A trailer can be a comfortable way to travel, but it changes how the vehicle behaves. It adds length, weight, fuel consumption, turning restrictions and another set of wheels to manage on loose, narrow or uneven terrain.
The Khaya keeps the camper within the footprint of your pickup. There is no trailer tracking behind you through switchbacks, no separate unit to reverse into a tight campsite and no hitch limiting departure angles.
The result is a family camping setup that remains closely connected to the vehicle carrying it. You still need to respect your truck's payload, handling and dimensions, but the Khaya avoids many of the compromises that come with towing a large off-road trailer.
Why We Like It
The Khaya 4-Sleeper solves a difficult problem. Families need more sleeping room, but most ways of adding that room also add bulk, complexity or another vehicle.
Alu-Cab found the space inside the camper itself. The rear living area becomes the additional sleeping area, the roof lifts to provide standing room and the essential camp systems are integrated into one cohesive package.
What we like most is that the Khaya does all of this without permanently taking your truck away from you. Remove the camper when you need the pickup. Leave it set up when you need the truck at camp. Keep it packed between trips so the next family adventure starts with loading the camper, not rebuilding the campsite from scratch.
It is a serious investment, but it replaces a remarkable amount of equipment and gives a family something far more valuable than another gadget: the ability to travel together without being limited to ordinary destinations.
Why Choose the Khaya 4-Sleeper?
- Comfortable sleeping capacity for a family of four
- Convertible rear living and sleeping area
- Drive-off design preserves the everyday usefulness of your truck
- No trailer to tow, manoeuvre or store
- Integrated 75-litre water tank and sink
- Air heater and water heater included
- 270° Shadow Awning and Shower Cube included
- Aluminum construction designed for expedition travel
- Made to order in Cape Town and imported specifically for you
Vehicle Compatibility and Payload
The Khaya 4-Sleeper is designed to suit many mid-size double-cab short-bed and extra-cab long-bed pickup trucks. Final compatibility depends on the exact vehicle, model year, bed configuration, payload rating, mounting requirements and completed camper specification.
Common North American applications may include:
- Toyota Tacoma
- Ford Ranger
- Chevrolet Colorado
- GMC Canyon
- Other compatible mid-size pickups, subject to confirmation
Important: The Khaya does not fit the Jeep Gladiator. Vehicle compatibility and payload must be confirmed by Cap-it before the factory order is placed.
The fully equipped Khaya weighs approximately 770 kg (1,698 lb). Your available payload must also account for passengers, fuel, water, accessories, cargo and any other equipment carried in or on the vehicle.
Cap-it can help review the application and installation requirements, but the vehicle owner remains responsible for ensuring the completed truck complies with all manufacturer ratings and applicable regulations.
